Pirates Grind Out Tough Game Against Delaware State

RESULT
ECU (4-4) recorded its second straight victory with a 63-57 win over Delaware State (2-7) inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum Saturday and improve to 2-0 under interim head coach Michael Perry.

TURNING POINT
Barkley's steal and subsequent dunk gave ECU a two possession lead with two minutes remaining. That was part of a 7-0 run which gave the Pirates a 60-52 lead with 1:35 to play. The Hornets pulled within three with 1:06 remaining but came up empty on their game-tying possession and Shawn Williams sealed it with two free throws with 17 seconds left.

Junior Isaac Fleming scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists and collected two steals … Fleming was 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-3 at the free throw line … It was his fourth straight game scoring 14 or more points and third in a row with 17 or more.

Artem Tavakalyan scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, going 3-of-4 outside the arc … He also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
