GREENVILLE, N.C. --- ECU returns to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum Sunday afternoon to play its final game of 2017 as it host UCF in its first American Athletic Conference home game of the season.
Both teams opened conference play earlier in the week with a loss. UCF (9-4, 0-1) was beaten by SMU, 56-51, on Wednesday ending its five-game winning streak before the Pirates (6-6, 0-1) fell to Tulsa, 79-53, Thursday.
ECU senior B.J. Tyson became the eighth player in school history to score over 1,300 career points by posting 17 against the Golden Hurricane. In the process he moved into third-place on The American's all-time scoring list.
Tyson leads the Pirates with 15.7 points per game, which is 10th highest in the conference. Juniors Isaac Fleming (13.8 ppg) and Kentrell Barkley (12.3 ppg) also average double figures, but were each held under double digits by Tulsa.
Fleming ranks second in the league with 4.8 assists per game which was bolstered by eight dimes versus Tulsa. Barkley is tied for seventh in the conference with 7.0 rebounds per game, but is only second on the team behind senior Jabari Craig with 7.3 boards a night.
ECU leads The American in 3-point field goal percent defense (.295) and ranks sixth in overall field goal percent defense (.411).
The Knights rank second in conference in field goal percent defense, holding its opponents to 38.1 percent shooting.
Led by the frontcourt duo of 7-foot-6 center Tacko Fall and senior forward A.J. Davis, the Knights are out-rebounding their opponents by 6.5 boards per game and average 4.8 blocks per contest.
Fall and Davis rank one and two on the team in scoring and rebounding with Fall averaging 12.7 points and 7.7 rebounds a game, while Davis posts a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game to go along with 10.8 points.
UCF has won four straight against the Pirates, sweeping the season series each of the last two years after ECU swept the three-game series in 2015.
ECU trails the all-time series 18-9.
