Pirates Return Home To Blank Mount Olive 7-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina (12-3) returned to the friendly confines of the Pirates' indoor tennis facility Tuesday after a six matches on the road. In the first home match since February 12, the Purple and Gold blanked Mount Olive (7-2), 7-0, improving to 6-1 at home this season.

"It was good to play at home again today," head coach Shawn Heinchon said. "It seems like we've been on the road for a while. I thought we played really good doubles today which is something we have been spending a little more time working on lately. Today's match should help us get ready to face a very good UNCG team on Friday."

The Pirates swept doubles to take an early lead in the match and never looked back. Ronny Georgi and Kasey Countee beat Jacob Clarke and Juan Arbelaez, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles while Freddie McGeehan and James Ling earned a 6-2 win over Jose Cortijos and Martim Sousa at the top of the lineup. Fredric Lehfeldt and Vlad Anghel completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Ogulcan Deniz and Martin Moser.

Angel cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles while Georgi beat Cortijos 6-1, 6-2 shortly after to give the Pirates a 3-0 match lead. Lehfeldt earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles securing ECU's win and Ling's 7-6(0), 6-2 win at No. 5 singles made it 5-0 in favor of the Purple and Gold.

Will Bissett and Austin Allen won their matches 7-5, 6-0, and 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

The Pirates' win marks the third-consecutive shutout for East Carolina who travels to UNCG Friday to face the Spartans at 2 p.m.
