Pirates Snap Losing Streak with 4-1 Win at Richmond

Richmond, Va. – After losing back-to-back matches, East Carolina put a notch in the win column with a 4-1 win on the road over Richmond Saturday morning. After losing the doubles point the Pirates stormed back to win four-straight singles matches en route to victory.

Michelle Castro and Annija Veinsteina won at No. 3, 6-4, to even doubles 1-1 after Kianna Marshall and Lyndell Giffenig won No. 2 6-1 over Nastja Rettich and Maria Gomez. Richmond claimed the doubles point though, with a 7-6(5) tie breaker win at the top of the lineup over Celia Ruiz and Lisa Hofbauer.

Rettich got redemption in singles winning quickly, 6-1, 6-4 at the bottom of the lineup while Castro was not far behind claiming a 6-2, 6-4 win a No. 5 singles for 2-1 Pirates' lead.

Hofbauer put the Pirates within one point of winning after a 6-3, 7-5 win over Gaby Rosales at No. 2 singles and Veinsteina's 6-2, 6-4 win on court four gave ECU the win.

The Pirates improve to 6-7 while Richmond suffered its ninth loss of the season. Next up East Carolina faces No. 30 Wake Forest Sunday at 4 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.
