Pirates Win Two in Hilton Head

Hilton Head, S.C. – East Carolina (11-3) earned its 10th win of the season in an early-morning match against Palm Beach Atlantic (5-3) Thursday morning before routing Davis & Elkins (3-5), 9-0, for the Pirates' second win of the day.
"We have had a couple of really good days of practice and our guys have enjoyed being down here in Hilton Head," head coach Shawn Heinchon said. "We played well today and these matches were a really nice way to finish up our spring break trip."
In the first match of the day, the Pirates swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in a modified Division II scoring layout. It marked just the second time this season PBA has been swept in doubles play.
Freddie McGeehan and James Ling partnered for the first time this season earning an 8-2 win over Rafael Lenz and Bernardo Ferreira at No. 1 doubles. Vlad Anghel and Fredric Lehfeldt edged Pato Zarazua and Pietro de Silva 8-6 at No. 2 doubles while Kasey Countee and Ronny Georgi completed the sweep with an 8-2 win at the bottom of the lineup.
Every member of the Pirates' singles lineup won in consecutive sets en route to the 9-0 victory.
In the second match of the day, East Carolina once again blanked its opponent, 9-0. The Pirates downed Davis & Elkins earning its 11th win of the season.
McGeehan and Ling teamed up for their second win of the day at the top of the lineup, 8-6, while Anghel and Lehfeldt paired for an 8-2 win and Countee and Georgi blanked Tristram Spitsnaugle and Cordel Bostic, 8-0.
Both Will Bissett and Ling cruised to singles wins in straight sets of 6-0 shutouts while Austin Allen earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory in his first appearance of the season.
East Carolina returns home Tuesday to host Mount Olive at 3 p.m. It marks ECU's first home match since defeating Appalachian State, 4-1, on February 12.
