
ECU Moves Up To Fifth At American Championships

PALM COAST, Fla. – East Carolina carded a second round score of 289 (1-over par) Monday at the 2017 American Women's Golf Championships moving up two spots to fifth place. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club.
Siranon Shoomee shot a personal-best 68 (4-under) and is tied for sixth heading into final round action Tuesday. Shoomee posted a front nine score of 35 (1-under) and followed with a 33 (3-under) for a two-day score of 142 (2-under). The freshman registered an eagle on the par-4 13th, while recording four birdies, 11 pars and two double-bogeys.
Sitting in a tie for 13th with scores of 148 (4-over) are freshman Dorthea Forbrigd and junior Lisa Pettersson. Forbrigd jumped seven spots after her second round score of 73 (1-over), while Pettersson moved up two notches on the leaderboard following her round of 75 (3-over). Rounding out the Pirates roster are sophomores Kate Law (35th/153) and Carley Cox (t36/54).
No. 44 Houston (572/4-under) holds a one-shot lead over No. 28 UCF (573/3-under). The Cougars posted a six-under 282 leapfrogging the Knights heading into final round play. Thirty-ninth ranked SMU (580/2-over) is in third followed by Cincinnati (587/11-over), ECU (588/12-over), Tulsa (591/15-over), Tulane (592/16-over), USF (596/20-over) and Memphis (622/46-over).
Houston's Leonie Harm (136) still holds the individual lead after her round of 70 (2-under) and leads Cincinnati's Ashley Cassidy and UCF's Ashley Holder, who are tied for second at 140 (4-under).
The third round will begin at 8 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday, April 18.
