
Houston Tops East Carolina 4-0 In Softball Series Opener

HOUSTON, Texas – Houston scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie and post a 4-0 victory over East Carolina in an American Athletic Conference series opener Friday evening at the Cougar Softball Stadium. Â

The Rundown
Redshirt junior catcher Alex Mycek went 2-for-2 with a walk while senior outfielder Ali Ramirez and senior infielder Megan Quick also recorded base hits. Breezy Burton was one of six Cougar batters to notch a hit and collected three RBI thanks to her first career home run.

Savannah Heebner (10-8) struck out eight batters with two walks and scattered four hits over seven innings to finish off the complete-game shutout. Senior RHP Lydia Ritchie (16-11) allowed the four runs on six hits while striking out four and walking a pair.

How They Scored
The Cougars broke through in the bottom of the sixth to score the first run of the contest after a leadoff single by Heebner and a RBI double off the bat of Brooke Vannoy. Breezy Burton then clubbed a three-run home run to left center to make the score 4-0. A Mycek single and walk drawn by freshman utility player Logan Wood gave the Pirates some life in the top of the seventh but Heebner induced a grounder to end the contest.
