
Women’s Tennis Adds Two for 2017-18

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina women's tennis head coach Tom Morris announced Tuesday that Sofia Anthony and Victoria Dixon will attend ECU and play for the Pirates this fall.

"With the addition of Sofia and Victoria, I feel that this has been one of our best recruiting classes to date," Morris said. "Both Sofia and Victoria are ranked in the top-10 in North Carolina for this year's recruiting class. They are solid players and students. We welcome them to our Pirate family and look forward to having them as part of our program."

Anthony, a native of Raleigh, N.C., earned all-state doubles honors at Sanderson High School in 2015 and 2016. She currently ranks No. 10 in her recruiting class in North Carolina. Additionally, she has ranked as high as No. 101 in the southeast and No. 364 in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net.

During her high school career, Anthony excelled both on the court and in the classroom. She graduated in the top eighth of her high school with high honors and a grade point average above a 4.0. Her sister Marisa currently attends Appalachian State University and is a member of the Mountaineers' tennis team while her father John is an ECU alumnus having played and coached for the Pirates.

Dixon earned top honors during her career at Cleveland High School in Clayton, N.C. She was named the Female Athlete of the Year in 2017 and was selected Most Valuable Player three times. A three-time Two Rivers 3A Conference Player of the Year and singles champion, she excelled in the classroom earning academic all-conference honors three times and graduating in the top-20 in her graduating class.

Dixon has ranked as high as No. 6 in the USTA North Carolina state rankings of her age group and is tabbed a three-star recruit by Tennis Recruiting and while having Universal Tennis Raiting (UTR) of 7.48.
