DURHAM, N.C. – The ECU men's golf team returns to the links Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-17, at the eighth annual Rod Myers Invitational at the Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,154 yards).
The invitational, hosted by Duke University, is named after the late Rod Myers, who was a coaching legend for the Blue Devils from 1973-2007.
The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes of play on Saturday and an 18-hole final round on Sunday, with tee times beginning at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday and 7:55 a.m. on Sunday.
ECU faces a highly-competitive 11-team field that includes No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Wake Forest, No. 10 Oregon, No. 24 Duke, East Tennessee State, Liberty, Louisville, Penn State, Princeton, UC Davis, and UNCG.
Â
ECU was the last team other than Wake Forest to win the tournament with the Pirates capturing the title in 2014 before the Demon Deacons claimed consecutive championships in 2015 and 2016.
Â
The Pirates will field a lineup of seniors Tim Conover and Jackson Spires along with the sophomore trio of Chris Akers, Patrick Stephenson and Blake Taylor. Conover finished 10th last season with a three-round score of 1-under-par 215. Spires, Stephenson and Taylor also competed in the event last season and each finish over-par.
Â
ECU is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind., last weekend. Taylor led the Pirates with a 10th-place finish.
