GREENVILLE, N.C. – With the program's best start on the line, ECU's women's soccer team welcomes former Conference USA foe Old Dominion (2-2) to Johnson Stadium for a 5 p.m. match Sunday. The Pirates began their season with a 3-2 overtime with over the Atlantic-10 preseason favorite Dayton and have been rolling since. A 2-1 road win at Davidson and back-to-back 1-0 victories over Towson and Campbell have the Pirates 4-0 for the first time in program history.
Â
Despite Old Dominion leading the all-time series 10-8, ECU holds a 6-1 advantage over the Monarchs in Greenville. The last time the two met, ODU defeated ECU 5-1 on Sept. 4, 2015. Under head coach Rob Donnenwirth, the Pirates are 6-0 against Old Dominion at home and are 7-6 in the series.
Â
ECU is led by junior Courtney Cash who has six points on two goals and two assists this season. Annah Lindberg is tied for the team-lead in goals with two after recording her first career multi-goal match against Davidson on Aug. 25.
Â
Cash, Jenna Geist and freshman Veronica Thodardottir each have a pair of assists, all a team-best. Michelle Newhouse has a 0.33 goals against average after allowing just one goal in her three appearances this season. She holds a 3-0 record in net for the Pirates and has made a team-best four saves.
Â
Old Dominion is led by Jackie Strough who has a team-best three goals and one assist for seven points. Iris Achterhof and Carla Morich each have three assists on the season for the team lead. Seven different Monarchs have scored goals through ODU's four games this season.
