
Men's Tennis To Compete At Richmond Fall Invite

GREENVILLE, N.C. -Â In the second tournament of the fall season, the ECU men's tennis team will send five players to compete in the Richmond Fall Invite this weekend.

"This weekend will be another good test for us with a lot of solid teams," said assistant coach Ian Van Cott. "Our guys have had a great two weeks of practice and are ready to compete."

The five Pirates that will compete this weekend are Wisse Jonker, Javier Renones, Simon Labbe, Diogo Marques and Vlad Anghel, all of whom are playing in their second tournament of the fall. Each of the five got their season started with both doubles and singles matches at the USC Fall Invite.

Renones, Labbe, Marques and Anghel all picked up their first singles wins of the fall slate in their final matches of the USC Fall Invite and have 1-2 records so far this spring. Jonker is still looking for his first singles win.
The five Pirates will be spread out over four singles brackets. Labbe will open the A singles bracket against Ammar Alhagbani of Virginia. Playing in the B singles flight will be both Renones and Anghel. Anghel starts the tournament against William & Mary's Jack Kelly while Renones will play Georgetown's Mark Militzer. In the C flight, Jonker takes on Georgetown's Will Sharton while Marques battles Longwood's Guillermo Cagigas in the D draw.

In doubles, ECU will be using using one familiar pair and unveling one new duo. Anghel and Marques will play together for the second straight tournament and will take on Georgetown's Militzer and Andrew Rozanov in the B doubles bracket. Playing together for the first time will be Renones and Labbe. They will open play against Georgetown's Charlie and Will Sharton in the C draw.

Friday's play will consist of the first round of singles play, followed by a pair of doubles matches. Saturday will have two singles matches and the final doubles match of the weekend, before Sunday closes the tournament with the final singles match.
