Hofbauer, Diercksen Earn ITA Doubles Ranking
November 14, 2018 | Women's Tennis
GREENVILLE, N.C. – After a strong fall that saw them finish 5-1 as a doubles tandem, Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hofbauer of the ECU women's tennis team were ranked No. 49 by the International Tennis Association (ITA) as announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
"Very proud of the effort, and commitment of Lisa and Alisa this fall!" said head coach Tom Morris. "They were paired together at the last minute,  and played extremely well, going 5-1  in the two events in which they competed. This is the second year in a row that we have had a team achieve a national ranking, with three different players involved in those rankings. A strong doubles line up is a critical part to a great team, and If we can continue to play at this level, then we will have a great opportunity for a solid spring season!  Again, congratulations to Alisa and Lisa!"
Â
Diercksen becomes the fifth player in ECU history to be ranked by the ITA, joining Hofbauer and senior Celia Ruiz, as well as current associate head coach Kirstin Burgess and Gillie Bailey. Hofbauer is again ranked in doubles after starting the year as the No. 43 duo in the country along with Ruiz.
Â
The pairing had played six matches together last season, going 4-2. After not playing together to start the fall, Diercksen and Hofbauer found immediate success when paired together at the Roberta Allison Fall Classic. The tandem went 3-0 at the tournament, beating teams from DePaul, Alabama and South Alabama to claim their flight title. In the final tournament of the fall, the partnership went 2-1 on the weekend, beating teams from NC State and Penn State.
Â
ECU will start its spring season and dual match play in January.
