GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU men's and women's swimming and diving teams had a strong showing at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta this weekend notching five NCAA B cuts, four school records and posting 31 program all-time Top-10 performances.
Â
On the men's side, junior Gustavo Santos recorded the lone win for the Pirates with a NCAA B qualifying time of 46.16 in the 100-yard butterfly, sixth-fastest in Division I this season. He was part of the 200 freestyle relay team with Victor Dos Santos, Eric Hinderup and Gavin Erdmann that established a new ECU record with a time of 1:19.76.
Â
Hinderup also broke the ECU freshman record in the 100 freestyle as did Marek Osina in the 200 backstroke. Osina posted a NCAA B cut time in the 400 IM as well and is ranked among the Top-100 in three different events this season.
Sophomore Jacek Arentewicz recorded NCAA B qualifying times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke – seventh-fastest in Division I this season.
Â
"We approached this meet with a focus on personal improvement and setting ourselves up with strong seed times going into the conference championship meet," ECU Head Coach Matthew Jabs said. "I am very pleased with where we are right now."
Â
Lily West registered the lone NCAA B cut on the women's side, meeting the qualifying standard in the 200 breaststroke. She is one of two member of the ECU women's squad to be ranked among the nation's top 100 in a single event.
Â
A total of 11 different Pirates have posted a Top-100 time in one or more events this season.
Â
Mary Warker broke the program's seven-year old record in the women's platform.
Â
"I told the team we can be happy about our results, but not satisfied," Jabs explained. "I will never complain about a meet like we just had, but we must stay hungry for more. We are not the only team in the conference that swam well last week, and there is still work to be done.Â
Â
"That being said we can definitely use this meet as added motivation to improve throughout the rest of the season."Â
