GREENVILLE, N.C. – After an undefeated home stand to start the season, the ECU women's basketball team takes its first road trip, traveling to William & Mary for a Tuesday night matchup.
Â
ECU (5-0) is coming off a 70-61 win over Wake Forest, the first ECU win over an ACC opponent since 2007. The Pirates are 5-0 for the ninth time in program history and the first since the 2015-16 season. ECU has been able to reach a 6-0 mark just three times, falling in its sixth game on five other occasions.
Â
The Pirates have been led by Raven Johnson and Lashonda Monk. Johnson leads the Pirates in scoring, averaging 19.0 ppg. Right behind her is Monk, who is scoring 15.6 ppg. The pair both set career-highs in the win over Wake, with Monk scoring 25 and Johnson adding 24. Monk added nine steals against the Demon Deacons, which is tied for the fourth-highest total in program history. On the boards, Salita Greene hauled in a season-high 11 rebounds against Wake Forest, giving her a team-best 40 so far this season. Monk has a team-high 20 assists, with Johnson (18) and Justice Gee (15) also handing out double-digit assists so far.
Â
William & Mary (2-2) is returning home after a two-game road trip. The Tribe beat Loyola, (Md.) 65-49 before falling to Davidson 76-65. Bianca Boggs leads the team in scoring, with an average of 18.3 ppg and also has a team-high 30 rebounds, 21 assists, three blocks and nine steals. Boggs was named Preseason All-CAA First-Team, with the Tribe chosen to finish in sixth in the league's annual preseason poll. William & Mary is averaging 7.3 made three-point field goals per game, 2,0 more than opponents.
Â
ECU has dominated the historical series against William & Mary, leading its former CAA rival 33-13. However, the Tribe has had recent success, beating the Pirates in both 2016 and 2017. Last season, William & Mary left Minges Coliseum with a 71-65 overtime win, despite four Pirates scoring in double-figures. ECU is 12-9 all-time in Williamsburg, although William & Mary won the last time the two teams met there, 82-72 in 2016. Since ECU left the CAA in 2001, the two teams are 2-2 against each other.
