Morris Announces The Signing Of Sibel Tanik

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU head women's tennis coach Tom Morris announced the addition of Sibel Tanik Monday afternoon. Sanik has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend ECU and play tennis for the Pirates in the fall of 2019.

Tanik arrives from Raleigh, N.C. and already has connections to ECU, with her older sister Melis Tanik having played tennis for the Pirates from 2012-2014. Tanik helped lead the Sanderson High School tennis program to new heights, reaching the No. 3 ranking in the state of North Carolina during her senior season. Tanik played in the number one singles position for Sanderson in all four of her prep seasons and was a finalist in the individual state singles championship in 2018.

Tanik also excelled on the doubles court. She reached the semifinals of the high school state championships in doubles play during her freshman and sophomore campaigns and then went undefeated in both singles and doubles during the conference and regional championships during her senior season. In between, she finished her junior season undefeated on the doubles court. During her four seasons at Sanderson, Tanik was named the Team MVP all four seasons and was the Female Athlete of the Year during her junior year.

Outside of Sanderson, Tanik also found success. During her senior season, she reached the consolation final of the National tournament. Â She was also a finalist of the State Summer Closed in 2016 and was the champion of the State Spring Closed. She also reached the finals of the State Closed in singles in 2015 and won the doubles title at the same tournament.
