ECU Drops Road Contest At Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – In the highest scoring game so far this season, the ECU women's basketball team could not keep up with Duke, falling 83-66 on Friday night inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. Â
The difference in the game came in the third quarter. ECU had gone toe-to-toe with the Blue Devils through the first 20 minutes, but trailed by nine at the half. In the decisive third quarter, the ECU defense could not stop the Duke offense. The Blue Devils scored 32 points in the quarter, the most an ECU opponent has scored in a single period this season.
Duke shot 13-of-17 (.765) from the field and 5-of-8 (.625) from behind the three-point arc.
The Pirates held their own in the other three quarters, including outscoring Duke 21-13 in the fourth frame. Raven Johnson led ECU with 13 points, including seven of Duke's 16 points in the third quarter. Also scoring in double-figures was Destiny Campbell (11 points) and Desiree Corbin (10 points). Corbin had the best game of her Pirate career, scoring in double-figures for the first time while also adding a career-high nine rebounds and three steals.
ECU won the turnover battle 22-19 and had 14 steals, with Lashonda Monk finishing with four and Johnson, Campbell and Corbin getting three each.
The Blue Devils held the advantage on the boards, behind the three-point line and at the charity stripe. Duke outrebounded ECU 49-37, including hauling in 36 defensive rebounds. The Blue Devils shot 8-of-23 from three-point range and 13-of-19 from the free throw line. Haley Gorecki led Duke with 26 points and 11 rebounds while Miela Goodchild had 19 points.
ECU returns home on Sunday for its final nonconference game of the season. The Pirates will host UNC Wilmington at 2 p.m., inside Minges Coliseum.
