
Women’s Tennis Edged in First Round of Conference Championship

Dallas, Texas --- The No. 8 seeded ECU women's tennis team fell to No. 9 Tulane, 4-3, after over three hours of play on the Crum Tennis Courts on the campus of SMU.

The Pirates secured the doubles point after dropping the opening duo's match. ECU's top pair of Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hofbauer evened the doubles competition with a 6-3 victory over Tulane's Sade Atkinson and Laura Fabrizi. Celia Ruiz and Annija Veinsteina clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over the Green Wave's No. 3 pair of Daniela La Fuente and Sofia Kurtz.

In singles competition, Tulane countered back with a win at the No. 5 singles position. ECU would respond with a 6-3, 6-3 win from Hofbauer at the No. 2 spot over Laura Fabrizi. Hofbauer will finish with 14 solo victories, the second most on the team.  No. 75 Celia Ruiz then added her eighth-consecutive win to give the Pirates their third point of the day, defeating the Green Wave's top solo competitor, Sade Atkinson, 6-4, 6-2.

With the match score sitting at 3-1 ECU, Tulane fired off three consecutive victories to secure the first round win. The Pirates forced the Green Wave in the third set of each of the final three matches on the day, but were narrowly edged by their opponent at the fourth, third and sixth positions.
