GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU softball team wraps up its 2018 home schedule this weekend when American Athletic Conference newcomer Wichita State visits Greenville for a three-game set. The teams will play at 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and Noon Sunday.
Â
The Pirates will recognize their four-member senior class of Meredith Burroughs, Alex Mycek, Rebecca Perrell and Karlie Smith before Sunday's series finale. Â Â
Â
ECU is 22-26 overall after knocking off in-state foe NC State 2-1 at home Wednesday for its second win over the Wolfpack in the last three seasons. Â Freshman Ashleigh Inae provided the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning as part of a two-hit, two-RBI performance at the plate. Junior Ashley Weingartz also tallied a pair of hits while freshman Erin Poepping tossed her seventh complete game of the campaign, allowing just one earned run and striking out five NCSU batters.
Â
The Pirates are 7-8 in AAC play, sitting just two games back of Wichita State (9-6) for second place in the conference standings with six to play. USF, whom the Purple and Gold handed its first series loss in league play last weekend, owns the top spot in the standings with a 10-5 record.
Â
ECU is hitting .238 as a team with 41 doubles, two triples and 35 home runs. Freshman outfielder Tyler King paces the unit with a .292 batting average and has rapped out a team-high 47 hits as well as six doubles and two triples. In the circle, the Pirates sport a collective 3.45 earned run average with freshmen Erin Poepping and Whitney Sanford combining to throw 249.2 of ECU's 321 innings. The duo has struck out 139 batters between them and boasts respective 3.36 and 3.61 ERAs. Â
