Pirates Have Another Record Breaking Academic Semester

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- ECU student-athletes combined to post a record 3.11 annual grade point average (GPA) for the 2017-18 academic year, an improvement from last year's average of 3.02, announced athletics department officials Friday.

ECU student-athletes fashioned a cumulative 3.16 GPA and spring semester GPA of 3.14, both of which were the highest marks in 16 years of recorded averages.

Fourteen teams posted above a 3.0 GPA for the 2018 spring semester as more than 67 percent of ECU student-athletes earned a 3.0 or above semester GPA. Thirteen squads finished with over a 3.0 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year, while 14 own above a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Over 260 student-athletes posted a 3.0 or higher GPA in the semester with 27 achieving Chancellor's List status with a perfect 4.0. An additional 136 student-athletes made the Dean's List, while 81 were named to the Honor Roll.

Five members of the women's swimming and diving program earned distinction on the Chancellor's List with four student-athletes from the women's cross country team meriting recognition along with three each from the women's golf and soccer squads.
The women's golf team produced a 3.77 semester team GPA, tops among all ECU athletics programs. The Pirates' women's tennis team generated a 3.75 semester GPA to stand second.
