Pirates Return To The Courts At Richmond Invite
October 10, 2019 | Men's Tennis
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following two weeks without any matches, the ECU men's tennis team heads to the Richmond Fall Tournament.
Â
"This event is coming at the perfect time and should be a great test with some very good teams at this event this year," said head coach Shawn Heinchon. "Our guys will get a lot of matches in in a three day period which is a great way to test and push them. Â We've had a couple weeks off from competition and the guys are ready to go."
Â
Seven of the eight Pirates will head to Richmond for the tournament, as reigning AAC Tennis Player of the Month Diogo Marques will miss out due to injury.
Â
ECU will be led by senior Javier Renones who started his final ECU season with a 3-1 singles ledger at the UNCG Fall Invitational. Along with Renones, Wisse Jonker and Simon Labbe are the retuning Pirates that will play this weekend. Jonker has a 2-2 singles record while Labbe has gone 4-4 so far.
Â
Among the Pirate newcomers, Agustin Tamagnone has hit the ground running. The Southern Utah transfer is second on the team with a 6-2 singles mark to go with a 4-2 doubles ledger. Federico Masetti and Nelson Stafford have started their collegiate careers with 4-3 singles records. Masetti has also formed the top doubles duo for ECU, pairing with Labbe to go 3-1 so far. Rounding out the squad is Daniel Bird who is 2-2 so far in singles and 2-1 in doubles while pairing with Stafford.
Â
Play will start on Friday, Oct. 11 and will run through Sunday, Oct. 13.
