GREENVILLE, N.C. – Looking to snap a five game losing streak, the ECU women's basketball team will play host to Tulane on Saturday afternoon inside Minges Coliseum.
Â
ECU (10-10, 1-6 AAC) most recently fell at Wichita State 57-47. The Pirates outscored the Shockers 20-13 in the third quarter to take a 39-38 lead heading into the fourth, but Wichita State opened the final period on a 13-2 run to pull away. Lashonda Monk finished with a team-high 17 points, including 12 in the third period. Also in double figures was Raven Johnson with 11 points while Alex Frazier had a career-high five steals. Â
Â
ECU continues to lead the conference in steals per game and turnovers forced, averaging 11.8 and 22.1 respectively. Those numbers also rank ECU 13th in the country. Monk has been a key in turning teams over, as the sophomore has a new career-high with 76 steals, ranking her seventh on ECU's single-season steals list. Monk leads the AAC with 4.0 steals and is seventh in scoring, averaging 13.4 points.
Â
Tulane (14-6, 4-3) comes to Greenville after snapping a three-game losing streak by topping Memphis 62-61 in overtime. The Green Wave have been led by Krystal Freeman this season, with the sophomore ranking in the top-15 of the American in scoring (13.1 ppg; 10th), rebounding (6.9 rpg; 14th), field goal percentage (.496; eighth) and blocked shots (0.9 bpg; 10th). The Green Wave has one of the top defenses in the conference, as team's shoot just 35.3% against it, second in the league. Tulane also shoots well from behind the three-point arc, hitting 34.0% of triples, the third-best mark in the AAC.Â
Â
Tulane has had the better of the series between the two schools, winning 18 of 24 matchups, including a 68-57 win in New Orleans earlier this season. That was the first conference game of the season for both squads and despite 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists from Monk, Tulane rode Krystal Freeman to the win, as Freeman finished with 17 points and 20 rebounds. It was the fifth straight time ECU has lost to Tulane. ECU is just 1-7 at home against the Green Wave, with the lone win coming in 2007.
Â
Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., on Saturday afternoon. The game will be broadcast on the American Digital Network, which fans can find here. Fans can also listen to the live radio broadcast here or follow the live stats here.
