GREENVILLE, N.C. – With special visitors in the crowd, the ECU women's basketball team will try to get revenge against Memphis on Saturday afternoon inside Minges Coliseum.
Â
ECU (11-11, 2-7 AAC) is coming off a lopsided loss at No. 5 UConn. The Pirates were led by leading scorers Lashonda Monk and Raven Johnson, who finished with 12 and 14 points, respectively. Monk leads the team in scoring (12.9 points), steals (80) and assists (65) while Johnson is second on the team in scoring (12.7 points) and leads the team in rebounding (6.3 rebounds). Alex Frazier and Desiree Corbin have both increased their numbers in conference games, with Frazier scoring 10.6 points per game in league contests while Corbin leads the Pirates by pulling in 6.3 rebounds in AAC matchups.
Â
Saturday's game will celebrate both the past and the future, as the Pirates hold their Alumni Day as well as Girls and Women in Sports Day. All former ECU women's basketball alumni will be honored at halftime of the game against the Tigers and are invited to a luncheon after the game. The National Girls and Women in Sports Day is organized nationally by the Women's Sports Foundation. At ECU, members of the volleyball, women's soccer and track and field teams will assemble in the women's basketball practice facility at Minges Coliseum with youth from the Boys and Girls Club of Eastern North Carolina to host pregame activities. Spearheaded by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Day is devoted to recognizing the progress of girls and women in sports, and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. Following the activities in the practice facility, participants will enter Minges Coliseum where they will watch the Pirates take on Memphis.
Â
Memphis (9-13, 4-5 AAC) comes to Greenville having lost three of its past four games. The Tigers most recently dropped a 57-48 home game against Wichita State. Memphis struggles to score, averaging just 57.5 points, which ranks 11th in the conference. Jamirah Shutes is the top scorer, averaging 13.1 points per game while Alana Davis also adds 11.9 points. Davis is fourth in the league, averaging 7.8 rebounds and is third in field goal percentage (.532). Taylor Barnes leads the team in both assists (3.3 apg) and steals (1.6 spg).
Â
Memphis leads the all-time series between the two schools 17-13, including a 58-46 win earlier this season. In that win, ECU had just eight healthy players and shot just 24.7%. Monk led the team with 12 points and Frazier just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Memphis has now won five of the past six games between the two schools. ECU is 9-4 at home against Memphis and is 2-6 since joining the AAC in 2014-15.

Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Saturday afternoon. Fans can watch the game on the American Digital Network. The game will also be broadcast on the radio here as well as posting live stats here.
