
ECU Returns To Myrtle Beach For General Hackler Championship

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The ECU men's golf team returns to action for its fourth tournament of the spring March 11-12, traveling to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the18th-annual General Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

The Pirates, who rallied from 18 strokes down to win the ECU Intercollegiate earlier this week, are making their sixth straight and 11th overall appearance at the tournament, which tees off at 7:40 a.m. Monday with 36 holes of play. Tuesday's final round will also tee off at 7:40 a.m. on the par-72, 7,233-yard course.

Six of the 13 teams in the field are ranked among the nation's top 30 in the Golfstat rankings - (6) Wake Forest, (17) Georgia, (18) North Florida, (23) Wake Forest, (25) Liberty and (29) Louisville, along with Coastal Carolina, ECU, East Tennessee State, Kent State, Kentucky, North Texas and Northern Illinois.

The Pirates finished seventh at last year's General Hackler Championship, with current juniors Blake Taylor and Patrick Stephenson shooting 4-over and 10-over, respectively. Tim Bunten shot 11-over as freshman a year ago.

The trio will return to The Dunes Golf and Beach Club along with freshman A.J. Beechler and junior Chris Akers and Logan Shuping.

Taylor leads the team with 71.33 strokes per round followed by Stephenson (72.13), Beechler (73.04) and Shuping (75.10).
