ECU Heads to Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU men's golf team ends its three-week hiatus this weekend, April 6-7, as it travels to Kannapolis to participate in the 2019 Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate at the Club at Irish Creek.
The two-day 54-hole event will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Saturday morning on the Par 71, 7,099-yard layout. Following 36 holes on the opening day, Sunday's final round will also tee off at 8:30 a.m.
The 16-team field includes four teams ranked in the Top-50: No. 28 Florida State, No. 31 Kansas, No. 42 West Virginia and No. 49 Ohio State. The other 11 squads competing are Appalachian State, Dartmouth, High Point, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Marshall, Richmond, UNCG and VCU along with co-hosts Charlotte and Davidson.
Competing for ECU at this weekend's tournament will be junior Patrick Stephenson, freshman A.J. Beechler, junior Blake Taylor along with sophomores Tim Bunten and Stephen Carroll. Freshman Attie Giles and redshirt freshman Jimbo Stanley will compete individually.
Beechler is coming off a two consecutive seventh-place finishes at the ECU Intercollegiate and the General Hackler Championship. He carded a 5-under-par 211 three weeks ago in Myrtle Beach, which included a third round 6-under-par 66, lowest round of the season by an ECU player.
Taylor leads the Pirates with four Top-10 finishes this season along with a 71.96 strokes per round average followed by Stephenson (72.22) and Beechler (72.74).
