Pirates Kick Off AAC Outdoor Championships In Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – The 2019 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships began Friday at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University. Only a few races and field events were contested as the bulk of the meet occurs Saturday and Sunday.

The men's team picked up four points as Nick Ciaccia placed sixth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:06.05 for three points and Adam Sadowski ended up eighth in the javelin with a mark of 56.97 meters.

On the women's side, Bria Stith and Kristen Stephens began the heptathlon and, after four events, Stith is in fifth place with 3,058 points while Stephens is 11th with 2,815 points.

In the 400-meter hurdles prelims, Shellbi Chapman booked a place in the final by placing second in her heat in a time of 1:00.46.

The three-day meet continues Saturday afternoon when nine event titles will be up for grabs.
