Golf Season Ends With Eighth Place Finish At Auburn Regional

OPELIKA, Ala. – ECU carded a final round score of 295 (7-over) at the 2019 Auburn Regional to finish eighth and missing the NCAA Championship cutline by five strokes. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72, 6,371-yard Saugahatchee Country Club.

It was the highest NCAA Regional finish in Pirate program history besting their ninth-place finish in 2009. The three-day score of 881 is the lowest the team has shot in their 13 regional appearances.

No. 6 Vanderbilt (860) claimed the regional title finishing three strokes ahead of No. 11 Florida State (863). Third-ranked Duke (868) finished third followed by No. 17 Virginia (873), host and No. 5 Auburn (874) and No. 42 Tennessee (876) – all qualifying for the 2019 NCAA Championship, which will be played May 17-22 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas and hosted by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Senior Carley Cox was the Pirates top finisher after carding a final round 73 (1-over) claiming a share of 17th with a 54-hole score of 218 (2-over). In the round, she registered four birdies, two bogeys, one triple bogey and 11 pars.

Junior Siranon Shoomee finished tied for 21st (219) after her one-over par round of 73, which included five birdies, four bogeys and nine pars. Fellow classmate Dorthea Forbrigd posted a 5-over 77 in her final round finishing tied for 28th with a score of 221 (5-over). She recorded two birdies, five bogeys, one double bogey and 10 pars for a three-over 39 front nine and a two-over 38 on the back.

Rounding out the Pirates roster in the event were sophomore Kathryn Carson (t41/223) and senior Kate Law (t84/235).
