
Five Pirates Named WGCA All-America Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Five ECU women's golfers (Carly Cox, Dorthea Forbrigd, Kate Law, Siranon Shoomee and Grace Yatawara) have been named 2018-19 Division I All-American Scholars according to an announcement by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Monday.

With Cox (three times), Forbrigd (three times), Law (four times) and Shoomee (twice), it marks the 15th-straight year that at least two Pirates have been named All-America Scholars in the same year (2005-present).

Cox closed out her collegiate career participating in 11 events posting a team third-best 74.45 stroke average. The China Grove, N.C. native, who stands eighth on ECU's all-time career stroke average chart (75.21), registered a pair of Top 10 finishes and two Top 25's with one of those coming at the 2019 NCAA Auburn Regional (t17th place), where she posted a final score of 218 (2-over). Cox opened her senior season with a ninth place finish at the Minnesota Invitational where she carded a 1-over par 217 and closed out the fall portion of ECU's schedule finishing tied for 10th at Alexa Stirling Intercollegiate (7-over, 223). She claimed a share of 21st at the 2019 AAC Golf Championships with and 8-over par 224 prior to participating in her second consecutive NCAA Regional. In all, she fired 13 rounds of 73 or better with a season-low 69 in her first round of her senior season at the Minnesota Invitational. In the classroom, Cox is a three-time WGCA All-America Scholar, six-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll members and a two-time AAC All-Academic selection who earned her bachelor's degree in communication in May of 2019.

Following the completion of her third season at ECU, Forbrigd owned a team-best 72.48 seasonal average, which ranks as the second-best single-season mark in program history (Frida Gustafsson Spang, 72.25 in 2015-16 season). She won her second career event at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic where he carded a personal-best tournament score of 207 (7-under) that included rounds of 67, 73 and 69. In all, she registered three Top 10, four Top 15 and nine Top 25 finishes on her way to earning American Athletic All-Conference honors for the second-straight year. The Oslo, Norway native shot 72 or better in over half of her rounds (17 of 33) and in six rounds posted scores under 70, including tying her career-low 18-hole score of 65 during the final round of the Florida Gator Invitational where she finished tied for second and earned AAC Golfer-of-the-Week accolades. At the 2019 AAC Championships, she claimed a share of third place with a 4-under par 212 marking her second-straight conference championship she finished in the Top 3 (other: 2018 finished tied for first and lost in playoff hole). In the Pirate annuals, her 73.36 career scoring average stands second to Spang who closed out her career in 2016 with a 73.31 average. A business management major, Forbrigd is a three-time WGCA All-America Scholar, six-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll member and a two-time AAC All-Academic selection.

Law posted a 76.12 scoring average in 11 events as a senior ranking fifth on the team during the 2018-19 season. The Maryborough, Australia native recorded a pair of Top 25 finishes claiming a share of 22nd at the Cardinal Cup (10-over, 226) and Florida Gator Invitational (5-over, 225). Law carded 10 rounds of 74 or better with a season-low 68 during second round action at the UCF Challenge, where she finished tied for 33rd. During her four-year career, she posted a 76.00 stroke average (13th all-time) in 44 events where she claimed four Top 10 finishes. Off the course, she is one of six Pirates in program history to be named a WGCA All-America Scholar four-straight years. Law, who earned her bachelor's degree in business management (accounting), is also an eight-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll member, a two-time AAC All-Academic selection.

Shoomee appeared in seven events for the Pirates during her junior season posting a 75.19 seasonal stroke average. The Sanford, N.C. native registered a pair of Top 25 placements with her best finish coming at the 2019 NCAA Auburn Regional (t21st) after posting a season-best 54-hole score of 219 (3-over). Shoomee carded nine rounds of 74 or better with a season-low 69 during second round play at the Minnesota Invitational, where she finished tied for 22nd with a score of 221 (5-over). An engineer major, Shoomee is a two-time WGCA All-America Scholar, a six-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll member and a two-time AAC All-Academic Team selection.
Yatawara closed out her junior campaign participating in seven events and posting a personal-best 76.37 stroke average. The Salisbury, N.C. native claimed a pair of Top 30 finishes which included a share of 24th at the Florida Gator Invitational (6-over, 216). She posted eight rounds of 75 or better with a career-low 68 during opening round action at the Briar's Creek Invitational where she finished tied for 26th after posting a score of 222 (6-over). In the classroom, Yatawara is a six-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll selection and two-time AAC All-Academic Team member who is majoring in engineering.
