Annual Purple-Gold Scrimmage Set For Aug. 20

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Pirate fans will get their first look at the 2019 East Carolina volleyball team Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. when the squad holds its annual Purple-Gold Scrimmage inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Admission is free.

The Pirates return a bevy of experience to the 2019 roster, retaining all but one starter. ECU also welcomes back the school's single-season digs record holder and libero Brandee Markwith who missed the entirety of 2018 due to injury.

Julie Torbett begins her seventh season at the helm of the program owning not only the most wins of any Pirate volleyball head coach but also the second-highest victory total among her peers in the American Athletic Conference.

East Carolina begins the 2019 campaign officially on Aug. 30 when it takes on Providence to open the Puerto Rico Clásico in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. The Pirates will also face George Mason and Evansville during the two-day event.
