Complete Schedule
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Eleven events, including the Pirate Collegiate Classic, highlight the 2019-20 ECU women's golf schedule head coach CC Buford announced Friday. The Pirates, who have made nine regionals in the last 11 years, will host the Pirate Collegiate Classic Sept. 23-24 at the Greenville Country Club.
Â
"The strong schedule will be a good early test for our team," Buford said. "Our goal is to schedule matchups where the team can compete against the top programs and players across the country. That top-tier competition is what East Carolina women's golf strives for and competing against the best players in the world will be the standard as we continue to grow the program. We are probably most excited to host The Pirate Collegiate Classic in September with the opportunity to play in front of Pirate Nation."
Â
For the sixth-straight year, ECU will open the season playing in the Minnesota Invitational (Sept. 9-10), which will be held at the Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minn. Five years ago, the Pirates won the invitational posting a 54-hole score of 879 and were led by Frida Gustafsson Spang, who claimed top individual medalist honors.
Â
Seventeen team highlight the Pirate Collegiate Classic – an event the Pirates have won seven times in 17 years of hosting including two-straight prior to last year's tournament being cancelled due to inclement weather. Up next is the Princess Anne Invitational (Oct. 4-6), which will be in Virginia Beach, Va. and hosted by Old Dominion.
Â
Rounding out the fall portion of ECU's schedule is an annual return trip to Louisville, Ky. to participate in the Cardinal Cup (Oct. 18-20) and the Battle at the Beach (Nov. 1-3) in Los Cabos, Mexico, which is hosted by TCU. Â
Â
The spring schedule begins with the UCF Challenge (Feb. 2-4) at Eagle Creek Golf Club, which will mark the 10th time in the last 11 years the Pirates have participated in the annual events with their best finish coming in the spring of 2018 (second place). The following week ECU will play in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club (Feb. 9-11).
Â
Trips to Charleston, S.C. for the Briar's Creek Invitational (Mar. 16-17) and Greensboro, N.C. for the Bryan National Collegiate (Mar. 29-31) precede the American Athletic Conference Championships (April 19-21), which will be played at Hammock Beach in Palm Coast, Fla. NCAA regional tournaments will be held May 17-20 and hosted by Georgia, NC State, Notre Dame and Washington State. The NCAA championship will take place May 22-27 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Â
"We have the right kind of veteran-leadership on this team with our returning seniors to help implement our culture, set the standard and prepare the newcomers for the rigors of a high-level NCAA women's golf season," Buford added. "I really like our team this year, and we warmly welcome all the support we can get at home and across the country this season. We have a great group of ladies that I believe will make all Pirates proud."
Â
The Pirates return four upperclassmen, who appeared in at least six events which include seniors Dorthea Forbrigd, Siranon Shoomee and Grace Yatawara along with junior Kathryn Carson.
