Hofbauer, Diercksen To Compete At Milwaukee Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Two members of the ECU women's tennis team will get a chance to test themselves against some of the best players in the country when they travel to the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

"This is a great opportunity for Lisa and Alisa to see a high level of competition as the winner will receive a Wild Card into the ITA Fall National Championships," said associate head coach Kirstin Burgess."

Alisa Diercksen and Lisa Hofbauer will make their fall debut at the 44th Milwaukee Tennis Classic in River Hills, WI. Hofbauer assumed the spot on the top court for ECU in 2019, going 14-4 on court one and 17-12 overall. Diercksen had the gaudiest record for ECU, running up a 23-10 singles ledger, including 15-4 in dual matches.

Along with their singles success, Diercksen and Hofbauer formed one of the top doubles tandems in ECU history. The pair went 19-6 together, including 14-5 in dual matches. The high point of the season came when the duo were ranked No. 49 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). It was just the third ECU tandem to be ranked by the ITA, joining current associate head coach Kirstin Burgess and Gillie Bailey as well as Hofbauer and recent ECU graduate Celia Ruiz.

The winners of both the singles and doubles draws will be awarded a wild card entry into the ITA Fall National Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Newport Beach, Calif., from November 6-10.

Play will get started on Friday afternoon with the doubles round of 32 and the singles round of 64. Fans can follow the live scoring of the tournament here.
