
ECU Mourns The Passing Of Bob Maynard

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame member and former Pirate Club President Bob Maynard passed away Monday, Oct. 5, at his home in Cary, N.C. at the age of 85.

From 1954-57, Maynard was an outstanding football player for ECU both on offense and defense. He earned four letters in the sport and was named to the list of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Maynard was also a standout on the track in the 100-yard dash and 220-yard low hurdles events while winning a conference championship in the 220-yard dash in 1957.

Maynard graduated from East Carolina University in 1958 and began a long and distinguished career with the Deere & Co. (Moline, Ill.) in 1959. He was promoted to Vice-President-General Manager of the Central Industrial Region, which covered 18 midwestern states, at the early age of 32. Maynard retired in 1996 as the Vice President of the company's southeast division in Atlanta before his induction into the ECU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.

During his retirement, Maynard was on the boards of two banks and as a Director of Amadas Manufacturing in Suffolk, Va. An avid ECU football fan, he served as a member of the Pirate Club Athletic Board for several years and was the organization's president from 2001-02.
