East Carolina (4-7-1, 0-2-1) got its first result of its conference slate, earning a 1-1 road draw at Cincinnati. Haley McWhirter scored the opening goal for East Carolina with Alexia Moore picking up the assist for the Pirates. It is the third goal of the season for McWhirter, which leads the team and is the most by an ECU freshman since Amanda Malkiewicz scored four as a rookie in 2008. For Moore, it was her first assist since providing a helper in a win over VMI in 2019. Maeve English had a clutch game for the Pirates, making six stops, including two in overtime to preserve the draw.

Old Dominion (7-2-0, 3-0-0 C-USA) comes into the weekend riding a five-match winning streak. The Monarchs will play a pair of games, hosting conference foe Marshall on Friday night before coming to Greenville for Sunday's match. The Monarchs have been buoyed by their defense during this winning streak, allowing just one goal in the five matches and their goals against average of just 0.66 is 39th in the country. Carla Morich leads Old Dominion with 11 points on four goals and three assists and is coming off being named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week. Despite missing one game, Megan Watts is second on the team with three goals, one of which came against East Carolina, and one assist. On the defensive end, Emily Roberts is the team captain and was recently named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week. In the goal, Kasey Perry and Jasmine Crawley have split time. Perry has started six games and made 11 saves while recording three shutouts. Â
Â
It will be the second match of the season with between East Carolina and Old Dominion, with the Monarchs taking a 2-1 overtime victory in the season opener to give Old Dominion a 13-8-2 all-time record in the series. It will be the third meeting between the two schools in 2021, as the two met to open the 2020-21 spring season with Old Dominion taking a 1-0 win. However, this will be the first time the two schools play in Greenville since 2019. Despite a 2-1 Pirate loss in that game, East Carolina is 6-2-1 all-time at home against the Monarchs. A win would snap a streak of six straight games without a victory against Old Dominion, a stretch in which the Pirates have gone 0-4-2 against the Monarchs.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., on Sunday afternoon inside Johnson Stadium and admission is free for all fans. The match will be broadcast on ECUPirates.com and fans can follow the live stats here.
