Pirates Tangle With Spartans In Greensboro

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina plays its final non-conference game of the season Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Greensboro to face UNCG. The Pirates and Spartans meet for the first time since 2010.

The contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start and will be streamed live via ESPN+.

ECU (11-24) dropped three of four to Houston in an American Athletic Conference road series last weekend. The Pirates managed to pick up an 11-5 victory in game three, rallying for the win with a six-run fourth inning.

Rachel McCollum leads East Carolina in batting average (.361), hits (39), doubles (8) and total bases (56). Kama Woodall has anchored the pitching staff to the tune of a 6-13 record, 4.14 earned run average, nine complete games and 77 strikeouts in 130.1 innings of work.

UNCG (21-14) most recently swept Southern Conference foe Chattanooga on the road in a three-game series, downing the Mocs by scores of 6-3, 8-6 and 10-5. The Spartans are tied with Furman for second place in the league standings. Greenville, N.C. native Makenna Matthijs was tabbed the SoCon Player of the Week, slashing .471/.500/.882 over her four appearances. She went 3-for-4 in an 11-4 midweek loss to Charlotte.

13 contests remain before the AAC Tournament in Tulsa. After Wednesday's affair, East Carolina hosts Tulsa before traveling to South Florida and wrapping up the regular season with a home series against Memphis.
