
ECU Resumes Non-Conference Play At UNCW

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following a weekend off from competition, East Carolina makes the trip south to Wilmington Wednesday evening for a non-conference contest against UNCW at Boseman Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the game will be streamed live via FloSoftball (subscription required).

ECU (10-16 overall) most recently began its league slate March 26-28 at Wichita State. The Shockers won three of the four games with the Pirates grabbing their lone victory of the series by an 8-4 count in game two of a Saturday doubleheader.

Rachel McCollum is hitting a team-best .370 while Olivia Narron is close behind with a .341 batting average, squad-high 29 hits, two triples and nine stolen bases. As a unit, East Carolina is hitting .276 with 21 doubles, two triples, 23 home runs and 22 stolen bases. The Pirates rank third in The American in slugging percentage (.414), on base percentage (.370), hits (187), RBI (101) and fielding percentage (.970).

According to the latest release of the NCAA RPI, ECU owns the 33rd-toughest schedule in the nation. The Pirates have played 11 road games against top-40 RPI clubs Georgia (19), Liberty (24), Wichita State (30) and James Madison (38). East Carolina's upcoming weekend opponent, UCF, currently sports a No. 37 ranking.

Scouting UNCW: The Seahawks enter Wednesday's affair with a 7-15 overall record after dropping two of three to Elon last weekend. Jada Santiago has paced UNCW offensively during its last nine games with a .522 batting average - including three doubles and eight RBI. Rylee Pate has made a team-high 12 starts in the circle, compiling a 1-6 record and 3.72 earned run average with 22 strikeouts against 28 walks in 37.2 innings of work. Kristy Norton is in her ninth season as the Seahawks' head coach.

The UNCW Series: East Carolina has encountered UNCW more than any other team in program history, owning an 80-20 advantage in a series that dates back to 1985. The teams last met March 13, 2018 when the Pirates downed the Seahawks 6-4 at the then-named ECU Softball Stadium. East Carolina is 38-11 versus UNCW in Wilmington, but the Seahawks have captured the last four at Boseman Field.
