GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team welcomes Colgate, Rutgers and Wagner to Max R. Joyner Family Stadium this weekend for the 2022 Pirate Clash.

ECU embarks on its 30-game home schedule looking to improve on a 1-4 showing at the season-opening Kickin' Chicken Classic in Conway, S.C. The Pirates split a pair of games with Georgetown while also falling to Purdue (twice) and host Coastal Carolina.

Faith Jarvis was named to the first American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll of the season after batting .444 with eight hits and three stolen bases. Freshmen pitchers Jordan Hatch and Taylor Smith also made their debuts in the Purple and Gold and lead the staff with respective 3.82 and 3.89 earned run averages.

East Carolina enters the weekend with a .268 team batting average and ranks second in the American Athletic Conference in both doubles (10) and stolen bases (12). The Pirates also sport a 5.25 team ERA as ECU pitchers have struck out 25 opposing batters against 18 walks.

First-year head coach Shane Winkler has retained 11 position players and two pitchers from the 2021 roster while welcoming 12 newcomers into the fold, including six transfer student-athletes in outfielder Taudrea Sinnie (Texas A&M), LHP Addy Bullis (Dayton), RHP Madisyn Davis (UCF), infielder Bailee Wilson (Georgia Southern), catcher Jo Castillo (George Washington) and infielder Jocelyn Alonso (FIU). A total of six freshmen have also joined the fold to begin their Pirate careers.

The Competition
Colgate: The Raiders are 4-1 with wins over Youngstown State (twice) and Gardner-Webb as well as a victory and a loss versus Rhode Island. Colgate swept the first Patriot League weekly awards. Taylor Ludwick earned Player of the Week accolades, Bailey Misken was named Pitcher of the Week and Jillian Herbst garnered Rookie of the Week laurels.

Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights are 2-3 overall after beginning the campaign in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. Rutgers knocked off Lamar twice while also falling to No. 7 Washington, No. 8 Arkansas and AAC member Memphis.

Wagner: The Seahawks kickstart their 2022 season this weekend in Greenville.

Looking Ahead
East Carolina returns home next weekend (Feb. 25-27), playing host to a Pirate Invitational field that includes Villanova, Fairleigh Dickinson and Gardner-Webb. Â
