GREENVILLE, N.C. – Coming off a doubleheader sweep of Elon in the midweek, East Carolina looks to keep the momentum going when it travels to South Carolina for a three-game series at the College of Charleston.
Â
The teams begin the set Saturday with a single game at 11 a.m. before playing a doubleheader Sunday beginning at Noon.
Â
The Pirates (13-11) recorded 8-0 and 3-0 victories Tuesday in Greenville thanks to a solid effort out of pitchers Logyn Estes and Madisyn Davis. The duo tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts and limited the Phoenix to five total hits between the two contests.
Â
With four games to play before American Athletic Conference action begins, ECU ranks third in the league in both batting average (.291) and earned run average (3.80). Faith Jarvis checks in at fourth among AAC players in batting average (.387) while Davis and Estes are second (2.10) and sixth (2.53) in ERA.
Â
The Cougars, under the direction of first-year head coach Tracey Lynch, enter the series with a 5-16 overall record and a seven-game losing streak after falling to South Carolina 10-3 in Columbia on Thursday. Jenna Carter leads the squad offensively with a .340 batting average while Jenna Helberg is hitting .313 with eight runs scored and seven doubles. Carli McCants has worked a squad-high 48.1 innings with a 2-3 record, 1.88 ERA and 31 strikeouts against 15 walks.
Â
East Carolina leads the all-time series with the College of Charleston by a 7-2 margin and are 4-1 against the Cougars on the road. The teams last met back on Feb. 10, 2007 at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill when the Pirates notched a 9-0 victory.
Â
ECU looks to tally its first true road win of the campaign. The Pirates have lost at Coastal Carolina and Elon in their only two games on opponent diamonds.
Â
Looking Ahead: East Carolina returns home to Max R. Joyner Family Stadium March 23 for a single game against UNCW.
