GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU begins American Athletic Conference play on the road this weekend with a three-game series at Memphis. Sunday's affair will be streamed live via ESPN+.
Â
After playing four games against league opponents last season, the teams return to a traditional Friday-Saturday-Sunday series schedule this year.
Â
The Pirates nearly rallied back from a four-run deficit in the seventh inning Wednesday versus UNCW, but fell just short in an 8-7 setback at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium. ECU outhit the visitors 12-9, but a pair of errors proved costly as five of the Seahawks' eight runs were unearned.
Â
Entering its AAC schedule, East Carolina ranks third in the league in both batting average (.288) and earned run average (3.46). The Pirates rapped out double-digit hits against UNCW (12) and have done so in five games this season. The ECU pitching staff has also tossed shutouts in four of its last six outings.
Â
Faith Jarvis leads the squad in several categories, including batting average (.389), runs scored (21), total bases (41) and stolen bases (15). In the circle, Madisyn Davis has compiled a 5-1 record with a 1.81 ERA, three complete games and 40 strikeouts in 50.1 innings of work.
Â
ECU is 3-2 on the road this season, sweeping a nonconference series at the College of Charleston last weekend. The Pirates have also fallen to Coastal Carolina and Elon.
Â
The Competition
The Tigers own a 12-18 overall record after falling 13-3 in five innings to visiting Mississippi State Wednesday night. Collectively, Memphis is hitting .271 while the Tiger pitching staff sports a 5.19 ERA.
Â
The Memphis Series
East Carolina leads the all-time series with Memphis by a 28-15 margin, including a 12-8 record when facing the Tigers on the road. The Pirates won all four meetings with Memphis last season in Greenville.
Â
Looking Ahead
ECU returns to Max R. Joyner Family Stadium March 30 for a doubleheader against nationally-ranked Duke.
