GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina resumes its American Athletic Conference slate this weekend with a home series versus South Florida. The first and third games of the set will be streamed live via ESPN+.

The Pirates (18-15, 2-1 AAC) took on their first nationally-ranked opponent Wednesday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader with No. 10 Duke at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium. The Blue Devils took the first game 6-3 before recording a 9-1 five-inning victory in the nightcap.

ECU began league play at Memphis last weekend, falling 9-8 in the opener, but responding with consecutive 12-5 and 7-4 victories to claim the set. The offense was in midseason form throughout the weekend as the Pirates outscored the Tigers 27-18 and hit .369 as a team with seven doubles, two triples and four home runs.

Sophomore infielder Jocelyn Alonso put together a phenomenal weekend in Memphis, batting .556 (5-for-9) with four runs scored and eight RBI. She also notched a 1.805 OPS on the way to earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week accolades. Alonso currently ranks first on the squad in slugging percentage (.536) and second in batting average (.362).

ECU is third among American Conference programs in batting average (.288), earned run average (3.91), slugging percentage (.420), on base percentage (.375), runs scored (183), RBI (154) and stolen bases (56). The Pirates also lead the circuit and slot 14th nationally in doubles (51).

The Competition
South Florida (28-10, 0-3 AAC) was swept by UCF at home last weekend after defeating Canisius 5-0 in the midweek. Senior RHP Georgina Corrick is one of the nation's top pitchers, sporting a 22-3 record and 0.48 ERA. Her 22 victories, 13 shutouts and 248 strikeouts both lead the country. Alexis Johns also paces the nation with 36 stolen bases. Collectively, the Bulls are hitting .262 while the pitching staff owns a 1.71 ERA.

The South Florida Series
South Florida leads the all-times series with East Carolina by a 27-12 margin. The Bulls won three of four meetings last season in Tampa with the Pirates winning the series finale 1-0 in eight innings. East Carolina has not hosted South Florida since the 2018 campaign when it captured two of three from the Bulls at the then-named ECU Softball Stadium.
