GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina looks to get back in the win column Tuesday afternoon, traveling across the state to Cary for a non-conference game at N.C. Central. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Thomas Brooks Park.
Â
The Pirates (18-18) faced a tough task last week with five home games against the likes of nationally-ranked Duke and American Athletic Conference power South Florida. The Blue Devils swept the Wednesday doubleheader before the Bulls grabbed all three contests over the weekend.
Â
East Carolina ranks fourth in the American Conference in both batting average (.270) and earned run average. The Pirates have rapped out the second-most doubles (51) and triples (10) in the league and own the third-most stolen bases (57).
Â
Faith Jarvis is one of four ECU players hitting .300 or better as she leads the squad in batting average (.360), hits (41), total bases (51), walks drawn (15) and stolen bases (17). In the circle, Madisyn Davis is tops in ERA (2.86), victories (six), strikeouts (47), complete games (three) and games started (11).
Â
The Pirates own a 5-3 record in true road games this season with victories at College of Charleston and Memphis as well as losses to Coastal Carolina, Elon and Memphis.
Â
The Competition
N.C. Central (9-19) completed a three-game sweep of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Delaware State at home over the weekend, winning the set by scores of 10-6, 12-6 and 8-1. The Eagles are hitting .244 collectively with 27 doubles, three triples and 22 home runs while the pitching staff sports a 7.39 ERA with 101 strikeouts against 133 walks in 165.2 innings of work. Jaeden Davis and Ashanti Eubanks are the reigning MEAC Co-Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week.

The N.C. Central Series
ECU has won all four meetings with NCCU on the softball diamond. The teams last faced off April 11, 2017 when the Pirates defeated the Eagles 4-0 in Greenville.

East Carolina returns home this weekend for a three-game American Athletic Conference series with Houston at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
