Pirates Set to Open Season at Elon Opener

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina cross country team is set to open their 2023 season as they travel to Elon for the "Friday Night Lights" Opener.

The women's 4K is set to begin at 8:15 p.m. with the men toeing the line for a 6K race at 8:45 p.m.

"Excited for our group to get back racing," said head coach Billy Caldwell. "Going up against some regionally ranked teams will give us an idea of where we are at to start the year. After a summer of training the team is excited and ready to go compete!"

Teams schedule to compete at the meet include: Averett, Barton, Campbell, Duke, Elon, Fayetteville State, High Point, Meredith, North Carolina A&T, N.C. State, Rockingham CC, Shaw, St. Augustine's, UNC Pembroke, UNCW, USC Aiken, Winston-Salem State and Winthrop.

The Pirates opened the season at the same meet a year ago, taking third place finishes in both the men's and women's races with Elliott Kleckner and Lindsay Yentz leading the way with fourth- and eighth-place finishes, respectively.
