
Pirates Use Four-Run Seventh Inning To Defeat Cleveland State, 6-2

Charleston, S.C. – Anna Sawyer went 2-for-4 at the plate and recorded two RBIs as East Carolina used a four-run seventh inning to pull away and defeat Cleveland State 6-2 on the final day of the Charleston Invitational on Sunday morning.

Makenzie Mason went 2-of-3 including a double in the seventh inning that got the scoring started for the Pirates (6-0) who are off to their best six-game start since 2006.

After taking a 2-0 lead through two innings, Cleveland State would score a run in the third and fourth inning to knot the game at 2-2 going into the fifth frame.

Both teams would go three up and three down in fifth inning and both teams would leave a runner in scoring position in the sixth inning, leaving the score at 2-2 heading into the final inning.

Mason's double would put ECU in prime scoring position to start the seventh inning and the Pirates would capitalize with three straight hits and four runs to go ahead 6-2 and would close out the Vikings in the bottom of the seventh to get the win.

Jordan Hatch (3-0) gave up seven hits but only one earned run in seven innings pitched for the Pirates.
