GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team continued its strong play to start the season, improving to 14-1 after run-ruling Rider 9-1 and shutting out Towson 6-0 on the second day of the Pirate Invitational at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium on Saturday.

Logan Sutton would hit an RBI single to push East Carolina to a 9-1 win in five innings over Rider on the second day of the Pirate Invitational at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Â
The Pirates would get on the scoreboard first in the second inning after Mary-Kathryn Scott hit a single and advanced to second on a Rider throwing error, later scoring on an Emma Jackson RBI single.
Â
After retiring the Broncs' batters in quick fashion in the top of the third inning, ECU would create some distance with three hits and four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-0 lead going into the fourth inning.

Â
Taylor Apple (4-0) earned the win with seven strikeouts and no earned runs allowed in four innings of work.
