Pirates Fall To No. 25 Florida Atlantic In Second Game Of Series, 10-7
March 29, 2024 | Softball
Boca Raton, Fla. – The East Carolina softball team fell to No. 25 Florida Atlantic 10-7 in the second game of the AAC series on Friday evening at FAU Softball Stadium.
Logan Sutton continued her strong play at the plate in the series, hitting a three-run shot over the left field wall but the Pirates (25-10, 3-8 AAC) were unable to contain the Owls' offense as Florida Atlantic tallied 13 hits
on the night including two home runs in the first inning to take a quick 5-0 lead.
ECU would get things going in the top of the third as the Pirates loaded the bases and Emma Jackson's sac fly would score Sutton to trim the Owls' lead to four runs. Taylor Woodring and Annie Kate Dalton would record an RBI to make the score 5-3 and give the Pirates some momentum going into the bottom of the third.
Just as soon as ECU looked to make a push, Florida Atlantic responded with a three RBI double in the bottom of the third to extend its lead to 8-3.
After scoring a run in the fourth inning, Sutton's three-run homer would give the Pirates life and pull the Purple and Gold within one run in the fifth inning. The Owls would answer a Pirate run with a run in the fifth and sixth inning while the Pirates' next six batters combined for only one hit as Florida Atlantic held off ECU's rally to even the series.
