Pirates Drop Series Finale To No. 25 Florida Atlantic, 6-5

Boca Raton, Fla. – Emma Jackson and Taylor Woodring each recorded two hits, but East Carolina was unable to sustain a quick start as the Pirates fell 6-5 in eight innings to No. 25 Florida Atlantic in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at FAU Softball Stadium.
The Pirates (25-11, 3-9 AAC) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning on a Jackson two RBI home run followed by two more runs from Morgan Johnson and Woodring. Taylor Apple would make quick work of the Owls' first three batters and Jackson would hit an RBI single to give ECU all the momentum with a 5-0 lead in the second inning.
Florida Atlantic would cut into the Pirates' lead with two runs in the bottom of the second and pull within one run after scoring on a wild pitch. ECU would struggle to generate any offense down the stretch as Woodring's double in the seventh inning was the first Pirate hit since the second inning. Woodring would eventually advance to third with only one out but ECU was unable to score the go-ahead run.
The Owls would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and threaten to win the game with runners on second and third, but the Pirates would escape the inning and send the game to extras for the second time in the series.
The Pirates would have a chance to take the lead again after a triple from Kanisha Anderson but ECU could not take advantage and would strand two runners. Florida Atlantic would capitalize in the bottom of the eighth as the Owls had runners on second and third and FAU would hit an RBI single up the middle for a walk-off winner to win the series.
Addy Bullis (7-4) gave up seven hits and four earned runs in the loss.
