Pirates Sail Past Tulsa, 5-2
April 13, 2024 | Softball
Tulsa, Okla. – Mary Kathryn-Scott hit her first home run of the season on a solo shot in the top of second as East Carolina defeated Tulsa 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Collins Family Softball Complex.
Morgan Johnson and Taylor Woodring each added an RBI for the Pirates (30-13, 7-10 AAC) who snapped a two-game skid and controlled most of the game after scoring the first run.
Following Scott's solo shot in the second, the Pirates added to their lead on a Woodring RBI double and Johnson would score on a wild pitch in the top of the third inning to give ECU a three-run advantage.
Addy Bullis and the Pirates defense would keep the American's leading offense at bay over the next couple of innings and two more Pirate runs would come in on a Tulsa error and a Johnson RBI double to put the Purple and Gold ahead 5-0 in the top of the sixth.
Tulsa would make things interesting in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs while down to their last out of the inning, but Emma Jackson would make a diving catch on a lineout to calm the Golden Hurricane's comeback.
Bullis (9-4) picked up the complete game win in the circle for the Pirates.
