Chapel Hill, N.C. – The East Carolina softball team returns to the diamond tomorrow evening as the Pirates will visit in-state opponent North Carolina for a midweek contest at Anderson Softball Field.
Â
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra with Matt Krause on the call.
Â
The Pirates' offense is led by Emma Jackson, who is batting .414 (2nd in AAC) with 67 hits (1st in AAC/t-5th in NCAA), 23 doubles (1st in AAC/1st in NCAA) and 45 RBI (1st in AAC). Jackson was named the 14th best outfielder in the country by Softball America for the month of April and is only four doubles away from breaking the single-season doubles program record of 26 set by Kate Manuse in 2004.
Â
Morgan Johnson (.387) adds 44 RBI and 12 home runs while Taylor Woodring (.366/5 HR) and Anna Sawyer (.338/13 doubles) also provide a spark for ECU's bats. Johnson was named to the AAC's Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season. Taylor Apple leads ECU in the circle with a 2.51 ERA and 95 strikeouts (5th in AAC) to go along with seven complete games while Addy Bullis sports a 2.75 ERA with 50 strikeouts.
Â
Last Time Out
The Pirates are coming off a series win against South Florida, taking two of three, for the program's first series win against the Bulls since 2018 and snapping an eight-game losing streak to USF. Morgan Johnson recorded two of the Pirates' four home runs in the series to earn a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll while strong performances in the circle from Taylor Apple and Addy Bullis kept South Florida's offense in check. ECU has tallied nine AAC victories this season which is the most for the Pirates since joining the American prior to the 2015 season.
