Memphis, Tenn. – Kanisha Anderson hit the go-ahead two RBI single in the seventh inning to lift East Carolina past Memphis 8-6 in the series finale between the two teams on Sunday afternoon at Tigers Softball Complex.
Logan Sutton went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI to lead the Pirates (36-16, 12-12 AAC) who recorded their second conference series sweep of the season marking the first time since 2013 that ECU swept two or more conference opponents in a season. ECUÂ overcame a three-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth despite leaving eight runners on base and three errors by scoring five runs in the seventh inning.
The Pirates took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Sutton RBI single and extended their lead to 2-0 after Anderson grounded out to score Hailey Massaro in the top of the fourth. Memphis' offense would come to life in the bottom of the fifth as the Tigers tallied three hits and three runs to take a 3-2 lead going into the sixth.
After ECU knotted the game at 3-3, Memphis responded with three more runs to go ahead 6-3, putting the Pirates in a three-run hole going into the seventh inning.Â
Emma Jackson sparked the Pirates' comeback with a solo shot over the left field wall and ECU loaded the bases to put the winning run on base. Malea Rolle and Jayci Chamberlain both drew walks to tie the game at 6-6, setting up Anderson's big single to cap the five-run inning for the Pirates.
