GREENVILLE, N.C. – Emma Jackson and Jayci Chamberlain each recorded two hits and tallied an RBI as East Carolina defeated UTSA 6-1 in the series opener on Friday night at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Annie Kate Dalton recorded two RBI for the Pirates (27-11, 4-9 AAC) who recorded 10 hits for the second straight game and improved to 23-2 when scoring the first run of a game.
The Pirates would get into scoring position in the bottom of the second after Logan Sutton was hit by a pitch and Makenzie Mason later reached on a UTSA error to place Sutton on third. Mason would steal second allowing Sutton to score giving the Pirates an early 1-0 lead.
ECU would blow the game open in the bottom of the third with three runs to extend its lead to 4-0 but UTSA would avoid the shutout with a run in the top of fifth inning.Â
The Pirates would add a run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings while retiring UTSA's next six batters to record the series-opening victory.
