Pirates Overwhelm Temple for 2-0 Win
October 09, 2025 | Soccer
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team used a 25-shot barrage to overwhelm the Temple Owls for a 2-0 win on Thursday evening on Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium. The Pirates scored one goal in each half to post three crucial points in American Conference Play.
Â
The Pirates (5-4-3, 3-1-1 American) opened the scoring in the 24th minute with as collaborative a goal as you'll ever see. Off of a corner kick the ball was headed by Juliana Viera on to Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram and finally on to Holly Schlagel who finished her header into the net for her second goal of the season.
Â
Temple (3-12-0, 0-6-0 American) managed only two shots in the first half but saved six shots on goal to keep the score manageable entering the break. The Owls would record another six saves in the second half as goalkeepers Taylor Vecchione and Tasmin Bynoe split the duties.
Â
ECU doubled the lead in the 50th minute on another beauty of a cross that Alyssa Tucker headed towards goal. Her shot was punched away but only as far as Amy Mason who calmly delivered a right footed shot to the far post for her first career goal.
Â
The Pirates probably should have had a third goal in the 76th minute when a pacey AJ Mayock shot caromed off of the underside of the crossbar and down into the area of the goal line. It was called no goal on the field and was not reviewed.
Â
Olivia Dietrich went the distance in goal for the Pirates once again, earning her third solo clean sheet of the year.
Â
With the win, East Carolina now has 10 points in American Conference play and have positioned themselves well to make some moves in the standings heading into the final stretch of league play.
