GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team heads back out on the road Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest against the UAB Blazers. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

What's at Stake
The Pirates will look to notch a new season-best unbeaten streak as they enter with two wins and a draw in their last three after downing Temple on Thursday. It was as dominant as a 2-0 contest can be with ECU outshooting the Owls 25-7. Holly Schlagel scored the game winner in the first half before Amy Mason scored her first career goal in the second. The shutout was the Pirates' fifth of the season. With a win, ECU can continue to position themselves in the American Conference ranks, currently sitting in third with 10 points. Memphis leads the league with 16 while UTSA is in second at 12 points, both teams have a game in hand on the Pirates having already played six league games.
Â
Scouting UAB
The Blazers enter the game with a 3-4-6 record and an 0-2-3 mark in American Conference play following a 1-0 loss to Tulsa on Thursday evening. For the year, the team has spread the wealth with seven players scoring multiple goals combining for 20 total with Jette Zimmer and Avery Berryman leading the charge with three apiece. Zimmer also leads the team with nine points. On the other side, Leah Parsons has played every minute in goal with a .750 save percentage and 45 saves made.
Â
Series History
The Pirates and Blazers have met a dozen times since the series began in 2002 but have found themselves in a stalemate of late with draws in each of the last two seasons since UAB joined the American in 2023. Last season it was a 2-2 affair in Greenville in which Isabella Gutiérrez struck a rocket at the death for an 89th minute equalizer. Sydney Schnell scored the other goal in the game for ECU while Maeve English made three saves in goal.
Â
Weekly Honors        Â
Ella Steck earned an American Conference Weekly Honorable Mention nod for her efforts against Florida Atlantic which included scoring the game-tying goal as well as keying the Pirates offense for much of the second half.
Â
First Career Goal, First Goal in a While
Amy Mason scored her first career goal off of a rebound on a saved Alyssa Tucker shot. With the goal, eight of the Pirates' 17 goals this season have involved a player's first career goal or point.

The Woman in Charge
After seven seasons as an assistant, Emily Buccilla takes the reins as head coach in 2025. She is the first female head coach in program history.
Â
Pirates in the Pros
Two recent East Carolina alumnae have recently signed professional contracts with Maeve English joining AO Rethymniaki Enosi Athliton on the isle of Crete, competing in the Greek Division A. Meanwhile, Abby Sowa inked a contract with Rekord Bielsko-Biała in Poland's Orlen Superliga. Notably, Sowa will be competing in the same league as former Pirate teammate Kim Sanford.
Â
Home Sweet Home
The Pirates play their home contests in one of the most beautiful soccer facilities in Division I in Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium. Recently outfitted with a new scoreboard and state-of-the-art LED lighting, the venue is a great place to watch a game whether it's an early season matinee or a conference thriller under the lights. Pirate Nation has played their part of late, too. Five of the top 10 attended games in program history have come since head coach Emily Buccilla arrived in Greenville with three coming in just the past three seasons, including the all-time record of 1,335 attendees when the Pirates hosted then-No. 2 Duke in 2022.
